Hello everyone! We are the CTSS Team, a group of passionate Singaporean youths aged 19-22 consisting of Ben, Ellisha, Aizam, Shi Chee, Diwei and Hui Ying. We understand that the Home-Based Learning (HBL) implemented in schools is very different from physically attending school and having a sustained interaction with your teachers face-to-face. Hence, our initiative aims to provide extra academic support for students who may require help, yet are unable to access it during this period of Covid-19. We are very heartened by the response from both volunteers and students so far, and we would like to assure you that we are working very hard in ensuring this tutoring initiative runs smoothly.

More About Us!

Hui Ying: Hello! Check out my special note down below. :)

Aizam: Hello! My name is Aizam, and I am a current Year 2 Business Management student at Nanyang Polytechnic. I want to positively impact the community and help other students out during these challenging, trying times. Stay safe!

Diwei: Hey! My name is Diwei, and I am currently working at a nursing home. I will be heading to university at the end of this year or the next to study Occupational Therapy.

Ellisha: Hello, I'm Ellisha, and I am currently waiting for university to start in August/September. I will most likely be studying Politics and International Relations!

Shi Chee: Hello! I am Shi Chee, and I am studying Sociology at NTU currently. I am hopeful that Singapore and her citizens will be able to weather the challenges ahead of her and emerge stronger than before! Till then, let’s do our part and look out for one another! Cheers!

Ben: Hi! My name is Ben, and I am currently serving in the army as an NSF. I'll be matriculating into university in 2022!

A Special Note from Hui Ying

Hello!

I am Hui Ying, a first year undergraduate student studying history at the University of Oxford. Those who know me will know that I have a huge passion for teaching! :)

I thought of this initiative when school closures were announced on 3 April 2020 in Singapore as part of the "circuit breaker" effort by the government to contain the spread of Covid-19. Since students will be moving to full Home-Based Learning (HBL), I was concerned that online learning may be difficult for students who do not have access to private/home tuition. This initiative is meant to provide support to these students, who may be disadvantaged, and is not meant to replace HBL.

This initiative was not started by myself - I had the kind support of so many friends, seniors and (new!) volunteers who helped me in administrative and publicity efforts for this initiative. Here are some of the amazing people who helped shape the initiative initially:

Project inspiration: Jacob Kelly
Initial project ideation and vetting: Pang Kar Lok & Li Lidao
